    Winter Updates

    December 2024

Creek sustained up to 163 ducks in several open holes.

    January 2025

Mostly mallards packing in the calories for cold days. A pair of wild black ducks, a pair of bluebill and a one day visit from 4 pairs of hooded mergansers.

    February 2025

More icy days. But not as thick as when the Bay froze over in Feb. '77

Caught 1 goose squatter in the nest  early one morning.

    Spring - March 2025

March 1 - Camera operation  verified.

March 2 - Nest set up. Crabpot barrier in place to prevent early eggs from ducks and geese prior to Osprey arrival

March 8/9 - Daylight saving time = 1hr. spring forward and the Canadian goose migration revs up back to the prairies of Quebec. For our Atlantic flyway geese, specifically the Ungava Peninsula. You'll hear the distance honks of the high flyers northbound in long Vs this week and next.

March 9 - Osprey sited near a bridge close by. This male is a speedster with a different internal clock - he is always the first to arrive.

March 15 - Osprey, unknown, spotted ~0900 in cove. Crab pot nest guard off.

March 29 - Human intervention. Removed 2 goose eggs.
